We run a licensed dispensary with an attached smoke shop and a small indoor grow at the back in California. The smoke shop side sells the usual accessories, vapes, and some CBD product, so it is a bit of a mixed operation under one roof.
Insurance is where it gets messy. Most brokers either understand cannabis or they understand regular retail, and our setup is both at once. I am looking at general liability, product liability, and property, but the product liability piece is what keeps tripping me up. We sell regulated cannabis that we partly grow ourselves, and we also sell third party vapes and accessories we did not make. I have no idea if one policy treats those the same way.
On top of that the property side spans a retail floor, a stock room, and a grow room, with theft and fire being the obvious worries, especially around the grow.
Any operators here running a combined dispensary and smoke shop with cultivation? How did you get product liability to actually cover both the regulated product and the third party stuff?
