In New York all finished goods must have a seal of some kind so you can tell if it’s been opened. For Mylar bags we are Gucci; we just use a band sealing conveyor belt we got off Amazon for $350.
For prerolls we put them in standard pop top tubes that have a sticker label and then put a shrink band on the pop top and hit it with a heat gun. Putting on the shrink bands is very time and energy consuming. I’m trying to find a machine that automatically applies them and shrinks them. I see the heat shrink conveyor belts but they just shrink the band, they don’t apply the band. Also they cook the entire tube and I don’t want to damage the weed inside especially if it’s an infused preroll. With a heat gun we can just air at the tops.
I’m trying to find a more efficient option. Tamper stickers over the pop top? It can be hard to get them to stick properly and I like the clean medicinal look of the shrink bands better. I’ve also seen people use custom printed whole-tube shrink bands that act as both the label and the tamper seal, but we get the tubes shipped to us pre stickered so that doesn’t cut out a step or really save us money.
There has got to be a machine that automatically applies the bands. I’m sure all the OTC medicine companies like nuquil aren’t hand applying shrink bands.
