Between collapsing prices, changing regulations, impossible compliance costs, and big players dominating the market, it feels like small operators are being squeezed out from every angle. I keep hearing people say there’s still a path for craft, legacy, or local brands, but on the ground, it doesn’t feel that way. I know some folks are making it work, but I also know way more who are quietly shutting down or barely holding on.
Is there a sustainable future here for small operators, or are all just waiting for a buyout or burnout? If you’ve found something that actually works, or if you’ve pivoted out of the space, I’d really like to hear your take.
