Verticality and longevity in the industry?

I 26m just moved from large scale property management making very, very good money, to the cannabis industry, it seemed to get my foot in the dood, my only option was retail/budtending, which I have been doing for the last 6mo. While fun an informative, I’m having a hard time seeing a future for me in this industry, as most of my coworkers and even superiors seem to just want to work in this industry so they can get free samples and smoke at work.

I guess my question is, am I doing anything wrong? Am I looking for something that doesn’t exist? I’m currently based in CO, but it seems to be similar with every company I interview with.
